Love the story of how you discovered my Tracy Eaton series. I hope you enjoy the other books in the series as much. Great to connect with you here. That sounds like a complete nightmare; what's worse, the people at that B&N were probably more nervous about violating that creep's "rights" than any discomfort he was causing for everyone else. It's difficult to imagine a signing getting much worse than that!
I also completely relate to the rapid demise of independent bookstores. It wasn't so long ago that the town I lived in had three bookstores, all of whom specialized in different types of books, both new and out-of-print. All three went under within two years of each other, during the mid-2000s, in spite of their best efforts to adapt to changing technology. My favorite store, located a state away in Maine, also incorporates a gallery for local artists and their works, as well as town functions that involve reading awareness. The owner, Kathy, and I are actually quite close; I'm in my late 30's and have visited her store since I was able to drive in high school. She's always telling me her struggles of keeping the business financially afloat. While she has developed a loyal base of customers over the years, that base has grown older. Tourism helps during the summer and autumn months, but then the other six months or so keeps things "much too quiet" in terms of sales.
Incidentally, I have her to thank for inadvertently introducing me to your books. One day, she accidently left a p/b copy of Revenge For Old Times' Sake in my coat pocket. (I had worn a long black leather coat, which I had hung up next to her black leather blazer. She was on the phone with a family member when she went to put the book away in her pocket. She must have been in a deep discussion, because the novel wound up in my pocket instead!) Anyway, I loved your novel from start to finish, and I was thrilled to find out that it was part of a series! Tracy Eaton is such a great character, and your writing style is perfect for the mystery/suspense genre. I've already DemBones' Revenge and Route 66 Revenge on my birthday wish-lists, since Kathy has already confirmed that I shouldn't expect to find either of those in any of my pockets, free-of-charge! ;)
I just realized how long this post was. Thank you for taking the time to read it, and keep up the great work!
Sincerely, Sean Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8829923239097804929.post-86523006502713238672013-06-03T06:56:19.819-07:002013-06-03T06:56:19.819-07:00Thanks, Amber! I know there are places where that kind of ugly stuff finds a market, but I doubt he was coherent enough even for them. Hope not anyway. The wingnuts are lucky when they talk to Joe at the WRC -- he's usually nicer to them than I am!
